In our previous video in this series we discussed the importance of Property Owners Liability insurance
In this next video we will look at a key part of any insurance policy and that is:
Making a claim may seem rather daunting especially at what can be a very distressing time.
So when you first receive your policy documents always read them carefully as your policy wording will outline the procedure you will need to follow when making a claim. It is advisable to keep all your documents together in a safe place; you could even keep them in a waterproof container in case of an unforeseen event that could result in water damage, for instance flooding.
Always notify your insurer promptly as they will usually required you to submit a claim form. You may need to provide evidence, for example a police incident report or number and also supporting documentation like estimates or receipts.
Depending on the nature of the claim your insurer may also appoint a Loss Adjuster. These are qualified professionals who will visit you to assess the damage. They will provide an independent report of the costs involved and negotiate a settlement to ensure that the claim is dealt with as quickly as possible.
But whatever the circumstances of your claim, in the first instance you need to contact the designated claims handlers detailed in your policy documentation and they will instruct you on how to proceed.
Our next video in our series will be on what happens if your property becomes unoccupied?
