Some of our property owners use letting agents, others prefer to find their own tenants and manage their own properties. We should like to hear about your experiences; especially in the light of calls from the Association of Residential Letting Agents for more government control of the sector.

Ian Potter of ARLA said:

“It is critical that the Private Rented sector is treated with greater seriousness by the Government- the first step in this approach should be enforcement of existing requirements to protect tenants with action taken by local authorities to ensure a landlord provides a safe home”.

ARLA are also concerned that some agents offer no client money protection or fail to offer an Ombudsman scheme. In the absence of the official regulation of agents it is important for landlords and tenants to ensure that they are dealing with a reputable firm. ARLA cite the recent case of an East Midlands agent who was reported as having disappeared with client funds.
