The country is gearing up to host the 2012 Olympic Games six months from now, but not everyone is in a celebratory mood and many people are already planning their escape route.
According to a new survey by ABTA - The Travel Association, some 12 per cent of Brits intend to go abroad between July 27th and August 12th specifically to avoid the event.
And it seems that the older people are, the more inclined they are to take an overseas holiday to get away from the expected madness in London and across the rest of the UK.
Indeed, some 18 per cent of 55 to 64-year-olds are planning a break abroad and 22 per cent of over-65s have intentions of jetting off to a faraway place.
Victoria Bacon, head of communications at ABTA, said thousands of people will be taking time off work to enjoy the Olympic Games this summer.
"However, for those who don't love sports or want to escape the crowds, going abroad will provide a welcome alternative." she remarked.
So where will they be heading? Traditional favourites like France and Spain are good options, especially for families who don't fancy travelling too far. But there are also some great value destinations further afield, such as Turkey, Mexico, Egypt and Florida.
Of course you don't need to go abroad. There will be plenty of places in the UK where you can relax and forget about the Olympic Games for a few weeks. Think the Scottish Highlands, the Lake District of the Brecon Beacons.
Just don't forget that even if you are holidaying on home soil, you'll still need travel insurance, and an annual multi trip insurance policy could be ideal. That way, if your Olympic 2012 getaway doesn't end up being your one and only holiday of the year, you'll be covered wherever you go.
