A safe environment and a quick broadband connection tops the ‘must have’ requirements for today’s students a recent survey reveals, reports landlordnews.co.uk
The research conducted by the Mistoria Group of 500 tenants showed that 89 percent of those responded wanted to live in secure accommodation followed closely by 88 percent citing fast broadband as a high priority. Nearly three quarters were looking to live close to the university and almost 50 percent required local facilities to be close at hand. A washing machine ranked third on the list of ‘top wants’ with 76 percent and high quality accommodation also made the top 6 requirements.
The survey also revealed some of the worries faced by students and on top of the obvious fears about the cost of attending university there are a number of other expenses that ranked highly on the list of concerns including food, energy, mobile phone bills and the price of public transport.
Mistoria Group’s managing director Mish Liyanage said “our data shows the vast majority of students want to live in high quality, shared accommodation, with good internet access and affordable bills” adding that “We also know from previous research that the overwhelming majority of students (80%) want to live in shared accommodation with friends. Only 5% want halls of residence and just 3% of students want to live in a self-contained room or flat.”
